Actor Ahn Jae-hwan was found dead Monday apparently from suffocation. He was 36. His death came in less than a year after he tied the knot with famous comedienne Jeong Seon-hee.

The actor, whose real name was Ahn Gwang-seong, was found in his sports utility vehicle parked in Hagye in northern Seoul in the morning, Nowon Police Station said. The point of death is assumed to be several days before. According to interim reports, there was no sign of choking or medication but as briquette ash was found inside the vehicle, the actor could have killed himself using gas.

Observers assume a recent string of business failures could have driven him to the drastic choice. He reportedly left a note in the car. In the note, he said he loved his wife and asked people to love his wife. He also said in the note that he wanted to donate his organs, if he was not found too late.

Ahn, who owned several bars, restaurants and shoe stores, reportedly suffered from bankruptcy and he recently had to sell the lucrative bar he owned in Gangnam as a last resort.

Some observers said Ahn had long showed signs of suffering. A couple of weeks ago, he was sacked from his job as a TV presenter at an entertainment news program ETU allegedly because he had missed several live broadcasts. Some media reported that he hid himself since then, but his agent explained it as a mere attempt to go on diet.

Ahn gained popularity by appearing in numerous TV dramas such as "Tears of Diamond", and "My 29-year-old Stepfather". Along with his elite image as a Seoul National University graduate, he acquired a unique position in the entertainment world and extended into other businesses using it.

Ahn is survived by his wife of 10 months and comedienne Jeong, with whom he held home-shopping cosmetics business. His body was taken to Taenung Sacred Heart Hospital.

He reportedly called up his wife around Aug.21, which the investive body assumes to be the last call he had made. A reident nearby said he had seen Ahn's vehicle at the same spot for about a month.

It has been reported that Ahn was depressed because of
his many failures in business ventures. Also, his whereabouts were unknown for
the past month until today, when his body was found.

Witnesses report
that Ahn’s car was parked at the same location for the past two weeks and when
his body was discovered, it was already in a state of decomposition.
Investigations into his death are still ongoing.

It is a more shock and tragedy for the wife, Entertainer Jeong Seon-hee.
She has sought refuge at the church for a week while her husband has been missing for that time.
Church member had said that the Actor Ahn had wanted to commit
suicide many times due to depression, but Jeong Seon-hee has always
been there to encourage him to live and stop him from doing anything
fatal.
Ahn has been found dead in his car with a half burnt coal bruiquette, and a will.
Entertainer Jeong Seon-hee has always brought joy and laughter
through shows and programs. Her marriage had also seemed so happy that
this news is devastating to her friends and fans.

Another celebrity has decided to end her own life.
Choi Jin-shil
was found dead in her home at 6:15am on October 2nd. Her body was
discovered at 7:45 am. It was reported she hung herself with an elastic
band tied to the shower stall in the bathroom.
The
police are still investigating the cause of her death, however, many
assume it is due to the fact that she loaned the late Ahn Jae Hwan $2.5
million USD and somehow contributed to his death. She vehemently denied
these reports earlier but many assume the guilt may have tipped her
over the edge.
She leaves behind 2 children.
Rest in Peace Choi Jin Shil and our condolences go out to her two children and ex-husband.

Another suicide is now just coming to light, having been overshadowed by the suicide last Thursday of famous actress Choi Jin-shil. This time the victim is transgender entertainer Jang Chae-won, 26, who passed away at home on October 3.
Seoul police gave a statement on October 6, saying, “Jang Chae-won
was found dead at home by friends, who made the report. We’ll have to
investigate further before determining more details about the incident,
but as of this moment there are no suspicions of foul play.”
Perhaps the signs were there in advance; apparently Jang had started
posting messages on her personal homepage last month that went, “Will
the end of my life be a comedy or a tragedy?” “Life is really
tiresome,” and “I wish everything would go the way I wanted.” However,
notable is that her message on October 1 was different in tone: “Right
now I’m so happy~”
However, her last message posted on October 3 read, “Mom, I’m sorry. I’ll do better next time.”
Jang Chae-won’s profile rose in 2004 when she appeared on SBS’s Truth Game
television program as a man dressing as a woman, noted for being even
prettier than many woman. Three years later, she took on a sex change
operation and began to appear in the public eye once more.
This is really sad; I didn’t know much about her, but I do recall
seeing her on TV back before her operation and thought she was really
bright and cheerful.

WHAT. THE. HELL.
Following the suicide of actor Ahn Jae-hwan last month, following the suicide of Choi Jin-shil
(whose death was related to accusations regarding her friend Ahn’s
suicide) earlier this month, following the suicide of transgender
entertainer Jang Chae-won just a day later, we have, sadly, yet another suicide.
On October 8, news was released of the suicide of model Kim Ji-hoo
on October 6. Not many other details have been released, other than a
police officer’s statement that this was indeed suicide (and not foul
play).
Only 23, Kim Ji-hoo was a fashion model and actor, appearing on the MBC drama Before & After Plastic Surgery, family sitcom The Unstoppable High Kick, and tvN’s cable reality program Coming Out, where he came out as gay.
His body, found on the 7th, is currently at the hospital, with funeral services planned for the 9th.

UPDATE:
Apparently Kim Ji-hoo hanged himself in his room. While there was a
recent header on his mini-hompy that said “In a little while, I’ll come
to you in my next project!!” there were also postings that he put up on
his message board on October 3 that displayed a downturn:
“Life is like the wind,” “What’s there to agonize over? Meetings are happy, partings are sad, everything is just a moment.”
He appeared on “Coming Out” and started being bombarded with hate replies on the Internet after coming out as gay.

OMG!~ you know what guys, i just watched tv this day and i saw the news about jin sil's death!~ gosh!! [oct.13-08] jin-sil's mother saw her dead on the floor, and she was shocked, she coudnt move any finger, and his brother bought her to the hospital.. and the police already investigate about this thing [oct.2], and they decided to autopsy her body, the result was shocking.. they said that jin-sil attempted suicide, she hung up herself in the bathroom, and they are still thinking what the reason is.. there are lots of rumors in the net, most of it were from blogs, and thet said that it was connected to jae hwa, but the family doest believe it, they just said that its because those past few days,.."jin-sil is really depresses about things happening on her,..its really obvous!"- said by them, waahh!! i really cant believe it!~ anyways, jin-sil's body was cremated and her ashes was thorw at 230ft above sea level, her brother is the one who holds her picture and he is the first one who threw jin-sil's ash..there are lots of koreans stars who came to say good-bye to her, the always said that jin-sil is really an icon!..well thats really sad it almost made me cry..

M.Street loses its lead singer to suicide

On December 1, the body of singer Lee Seo-hyun, lead singer of vocal pop group M.Street, was found in a recording studio. The death has been ruled as a suicide by hanging.
The
primary cause was deemed to be failed stock investments. One source
explained that he had invested large amounts of money from friends and sunbaes
in stocks, but lost it in the recent stock market crash(es). While
there are likely other factors related to his suicide, this is being
considered the primary one. Apparently he had been overwhelmed with the
stress, although he been attempting to find ways to rectify the matter
as recently as the day before his suicide.
Lee Seo-hyun (born Lee Jong-hyun) was 30 years old. M.Street was a
five-member vocal group that debuted in 2004 and put out singles
“Noel’s Gift,” “Start,” and “Tension.” Its members had been in recent
preparations to release a new album, and Lee was said to feel the brunt
of the stress of their comeback as the group’s leader.
A letter was found with Lee, expressing that he was sorry to his
parents, siblings, and loved ones. His body has been transferred to a
hospital in Seoul, and the memorial visits will take place in Lee’s
hometown of Suwon.

It’s a sad day when news like this is no longer shocking. There have been way
too many celebrity suicides in the past six months.
Woo Seung-yeon, a 24-year-old rookie actress, was found dead
on the morning of April 27 at home from an apparent suicide. She had hanged
herself in her closet. The suicide is believed to have been triggered by
depression.
A family member said on the 28th that she had recently received treatment at
a hospital for her depression, but “she couldn’t handle the pain and made an
extreme decision.” The relative requested that the deceased be allowed to rest
in peace, given the current turmoil of scandals and accidents within the
entertainment industry.
Woo Seung-yeon got her start as an internet uljjang, after which she began to
model, and then branched out into acting in the movie Herb and
the mobile sitcom Yap. Her most recent role was in the Hwang
Jung-min film Private Eye [그림자 살인], which was released earlier
this month.
(I know someone’s going to ask, so no, there are no indicators that this is
related to the current drug scandal.)

'40 Percent of Actors Considered Suicide'

Four out of every 10 actors here have been suffering from depression
and have had suicidal urges from time to time, according to a degree
paper by actress Park Jin-hee, Tuesday.

About 20 percent have actually purchased toxic agents or "devices"
for suicide, she revealed, claiming that the extreme stress to stay
attractive and to remain in the limelight drives them to mental instability
and leads them to make drastic choices.

For her masters degree paper for Yonsei University, "Studies on Depression
and Suicidal Urges Among Actors", Park, who has played leading roles in
numerous movies and TV dramas, interviewed 260 actors last year with
incomes ranging from 10 million won-per-episode to less than 1 million won
a month.

She found that 40 percent were suffering from depression.

Respondents were quoted as saying, "I am sick of being alive. I want to die"
and "I want to commit suicide and have often thought about going through with it".
About 20 percent of them actually bought pills or other harmful devices to kill
themselves and another 20 percent said that they have confessed to others
about their urges.

Park said most of these symptoms derive from their "unstable status" in life.
They thought their employment status was too rocky and that their talents
weren't received well enough by the public and industry insiders.

The gap between the general public's perception that entertainers
"live flamboyant and happy lives" and their actual life being "not so glamorous"
also caused them mental anguish.

They were often forced to hide their real characters or feelings from others to
remain "likable" and some of them thought "having to stay young and blissful"
was self-consuming.

Their stress index marked 53.12 out 100, which is higher than that of
self-employed men at 48.12 and salaried workers, at 48.18.

Park's report is expected to create a whirlwind in the showbiz world
recently reeling from many celebrities committing suicide and the possible
copycat syndrome among their fans.

Actresses Lee Eun-joo, Jeong-Da-bin, Choi Jin-sil; actor Choi Jin-young
and pop singer Yuni are just some of the well-known celebrities who have
taken their own lives of late.

After the suicide by the late actress Choi Jin-sil in October 2008,
the number of suicides jumped by 60 percent compared to the previous year,
according to Statistics Korea.

"The numbers show that people, who seem to be in the middle of amiability,
love and glamour, are some of the most lonesome and troubled", Park said in
the paper.
