Gong Yoo to fall in step with military



Westerners say that death and taxes are the only things in life that can’t be avoided.
For Korean males, the aphorism can be modified to death, taxes and
military service. Actor Gong Yoo is slated for conscription this
October, joining the ranks of men, famous and unknown, who have served
their country.
According to the Office of Military Manpower Administration, Gong,
28, will serve at a station in Uijeongbu-dong, Gyeonggi, starting Oct.
9. He will undergo the six weeks of bootcamp required for new
conscripts.

He said previously that he would enter service after completing his
current mini-series in which he costars with singer turned actress Yun
Eun-hye.
However, his label, sidusHQ, said Gong hasn’t formally received an
enlistment warrant but it was likely he would serve later this year.
The star, whose real name is Gong Ji-cheol, rose to stardom after
his debut in KBS’s teen series, “Hakgyo 4.” Most recently, he has
earned rave reviews as an acerbic but charmingly rich single man in the
Korean mini-series, “Coffee Prince” His character falls in love with a
female waiter masquerading as a man.

On 16th Feb 2008, Yan received an email from GY's fan in korea.

Due
to the freezy weather in Korea, Gong Yoo who is currently receiving the
5 weeks training was down with a bad flu earlier on. Although the fans
have not receive any latest news on Gong Yoo, they believe he should
have recovered by now.

Korean fans of GY hope everyone will take good care of our own health to avoid catching a flu.

The
email also mentioned that Gong Yoo will be finishing his 5 weeks
training on 26th Februay and will be transferred to other team that
day.

We will only know the details on that day itself.

The following news is from PTT Gong YOO and Korean website:

On
16th Feb, K-fans mentioned that GY had a very serious flu earlier on
and had respiratory problem. The news spread when he went to the camp
doc several times to get his medications. Gong Yoo has fully recovered
by now.

It was also mentioned that all new soldiers will take
turns to distribute food during the meal time. When it was GY's turn
for this duty, the other soldiers will stare at GY when he served them.
In the end, he was asked to distribute utensils instead.

There's
also news that even some of GY's roommates snore, they should have no
problem sleeping due to the intensive training. However, GY is a light
sleeper. Hope he is not affected by the snoring.

They also heard that GY is very neat and organised. His personal belonging are neat and clean.

Co-actress - Yoon Eun Hye’s talents far exceeded Gong Yoo's expectation and it caught him by surprise.

What do you think of your co-actress, Yoon Eun Hye?
Frankly
speaking, I am not concern about who will be the co- actress for this
project. Under the normal circumstances, this could be a key factor for
consideration. However, working with the PD on the production of the
drama is more important this round. This could be the reason why I did
not think much about other stuffs. Although I said that I am not
concern or have any expectation of the co-actress, I was surprised by
Yoon Eun Hye when the filming started. Besides being impressed with the
effort she put in, her talent as an actress far exceeded my
expectation. People are normally bias against those actors who started
off their career as a singer. But this is not the case for Yoon Eun
Hye. She loves this role and drama very much. And because of her
passion for this project,I was always energised during the filming
process.

Yoon Eun Hye suffered a great deal at the beginning of the filming because she does not look like a guy.
Yes,
no matter who looks at Yoon Eun Hye, she does not look like a guy in
their eyes at all. That is due to the cumulative images of Yoon Eun Hye
over these years. After the filming began, both of us were getting into
our role as Han Kyul and Eun Chan slowly until it was a near 100%
integration. I also made an effort to treat Eun Hye roughly. Generally
speaking, I should be treating my co-actress gently but I treated her
like a younger brother. Sometimes Eun Hye will complain “I’m also an
actress…”, and because of that, we can show the progress of the
relationship between Han Kyul and Eun Chan naturally during the
filming. I thought that was also very interesting.

Which is the most difficult part of the filming?
The
most difficult part in the whole drama was in episode 11 and 12 where
Han Kyul blew his top after knowing that Eun Chan is actually a girl.
That was the climax of the drama and the peak of Han Kyul’s emotion.
Not only me, Eun Hye was having a hard time too. She had to cry in
almost every scenes. By the time we finished filming these two
episodes, both of us were physically and mentally exhausted.

There
were many kissing scenes with Yoon Eun Hye in this drama. Although it
is just acting, the kissing scene between two men feels weird, isn’t it?
Yes,
I felt strange but it was very interesting. My favourite scene in this
drama is the part where Han Kyul expressed his love for Eun Chan: “No
matter if you are a man, or an Alien,let’s go as far as we can”,
followed by a series of hot kisses. This was also voted by the viewers
as one of the famous scenes. I feel apologetic towards the gays because
it is impossible for me to fall in love with a man or kiss him so
passionately. It is through acting, that I was able to get a taste of
it. Very interesting but I will never fall in love with a man, like Han
Kyul.

After Han Kyul and Eun Chan started dating, are there many kissing scenes?
When Han Kyul and Eun Chan became an item, the kissing scenes turned out to be more difficult.From
the very beginning, Han Kyul and Eun Chan were treating each other like
brothers, or rather having fun together like two little kids. When
their relationship progressed to the stage of holding hands and
kissing, they started to feel awkward. Somehow I became shy too. I
think Eun Hye must have felt the same way. Both of us were so
clumsy when filming for those dating scenes. I got the most NGs in that
imaginary bed scene after marriage. I was even more embarrassed when
the PD teased me which led to a series of NGs.

Han
Kyul had a crush on Yoo Joo for nine years. Looking at the way how she
relates with Han Kyul, she is a bad woman in the eyes of the viewers.
Seems
like it is true in the eyes of the supporters of Han Kyul and Eun Chan.
But Yoo Joo is definitely a nice woman. She has never crossed the
boundary of a friendship and has treated Han Kyul sincerely. I think
that is why Han Kyul can maintain his crush for nine years. Yoo Joo is
a frank person, and in reality, Chae Jung Ahn is even more cool. Before
the filming started, I felt like calling her Hyung instead of Noona.
(Laugh). Although she looks graceful and feminine, her character is
very boyish-liked. That makes her very charming. I am easily attracted
to people with surprising characteristics.

The scene of Han Kyul helping to tie Yoo Joo’s hair left a deep impression for viewers
That
was the first time in my life tying hair for a girl. That scene was
suggested by the PD. Maybe it was the PD, herself, who wished to be
treated that way so that’s why she arranged for that scene (laugh). I
had a hard time in that scene because I need to act as if I do it
frequently and am very used to it. But in actual fact, I have no idea
how to tie hair at all.

The clumsiness of Han Kyul turned out to be a sexy scene instead.
That
is an example of the deviation in the meaning of the scene - between
how the acting was done and the viewers’ thoughts after watching. When
we filmed that scene, we never thought of making it into a sexy one
(laugh). But the PD has probably thought of it already.
The scene of Han Kyul singing to Eun Chan in the wake up call is also very good.
That
script does not have that scene. I suggested singing “I Love You” and
discussed with the PD and crews how to go about filming it. The process
is fun. The PD never insists on her own way, she will always asks “Gong
Yoo Si, what do you think?”. If my recommendations are not that
interesting, she will explain her views clearly. That is how PD guided
us to ponder and express our thoughts as an actor. Frankly speaking,
this method is quite troublesome and sometimes it would be easier if
the PD just give the instructions so that we can finish work earlier.
However, the PD’s attitude of wanting to complete the project together
with the crews, has created a drive to produce a happy Drama.

孔侑，原名“孔志哲”，艺名gong yoo，其实真正的中文名应为“孔刘”——父亲姓孔，母亲姓刘，于是艺名为“孔刘”。但鉴于这名字实在有些奇怪，于是大家仍习惯沿用“孔侑”来称呼他。

Gong Yoo, real name “Gong Ji-Chul, screen
name gong yoo, actually the authentic Chinese characters of his screen
name is “Gong Liew” (“孔刘”) – father’s surname is Gong , mother’s
surname is Liew, to make his screen name Gong Liew. But as this name

与很多明星从小就梦想做艺人不同，那时的孔侑似乎并没有这个意愿。“到中学为止一直成绩很好，所以没担心过未来（笑），高中时成绩开始下降，于是开始思考将来要靠什么能力吃饭。”

Unlike many actors who dreamed of becoming
an actor since their childhood, GY at that time never had an idea to
become an actor. “Up to high school, my grades were very good, so there
were no worries about the future (smiling), my grades in mid-High
school started to fall, so I had to start thinking what ability I can
rely on for my meal ticket.”



“当时作出的选择让父母有些反对，不是演员，而是演剧电影方面的专业，就是导演和制作一类的职业，也不觉得非要成为导演不可，就是广告和媒体相关的范围吧。不过当时完全没想过成为演员，还特意跟父母解释，不是想当演员。”

When I made the choice, my parents opposed
it, not to be an actor, but a profession in film-making, which involves
directing and producing films as a career, and I never felt that if I
cannot be a director, then the advertising and similar fields would do.
But I never thought at that time to be an actor, and I even
determinedly explained to my parents that becoming an actor was not my
objective.”



“当时很想进广告公司，只是觉得要是能够签到广告的合同就可以了。那时的我还完全没有当演员的想法呢。爸爸妈妈也叫我别去演戏。庆熙大学的演剧电影专业考

actor at that time. My parents told me not to go into acting. In the

Gong Yoo arrived slightly over midnight on 23rd August at Eon’s mourning hall located in the hospital.

Eun-hye, Lee Seon-kyun, Chae Jung-ahn and others paid their respect at
the mourning hall on the previous day.
On this day, Gong Yoo wore a black suit with thick framed spectacles, arrived solemnly and respectfully.
Before going to the mourning hall,
Gong Yoo posted a message in his Cyworld for the memorial of his good
partner, Eon. The note read: “It's
strange… the night before you left, I happened to listen again, the
note you read during radio program “Vocal Letter” to me while I was
receiving training in the training centre….out of a sudden I missed you
very much…. I wanted to call you….I should have called. I should've
nagged you again to change that persistent ringtone….I'm sorry”, The fans also grieved as he expressed his real emotions.

Gong Yoo, friend and Coffee Prince co-star to Lee Eon, was late
(but not absent) to pay his farewell addresses to the recently deceased
actor, because he’s currently serving active military duty.

On
the 22nd, he wrote a message on his personal homepage offering both a
goodbye and an apology to his colleague, featuring a picture of Lee Eon
from Coffee Prince days. The note read:

“It’s strange. The night
before you left us, I happened to listen again to the note you read on
the radio for me to listen to while I was in training. So I thought of
you suddenly, and I missed you, and I wanted to call — I should have
called. I should’ve nagged you, too, to change that persistent
ringtone. I’m sorry.”

Gong Yoo arrived at the hospital’s funeral
room a little after midnight on August 23. His other Coffee Prince
co-stars Yoon Eun-hye, Lee Seon-kyun, Chae Jung-ahn, Kim Jae-wook, Han
Ye-in, and others all visited the previous day.

Enlisted actor Gong Yoo (Gong Ji Cheol) made it through the selection process and has become the new member of the National Defence Promoter Team. The news was published on 28th August.

孔劉在1月14日以現役身份入伍後，現於陸軍六師團土雨中隊服役中。認可他多樣的藝能活動表現，選拔成為宣傳支援隊員。
Gong Yoo was enlisted on 14th January as an active soldier and is currently serving his military service at the 6th Division. Being selected to be part of the Promoter Team is an affirmation of his talents in various types of performance.

此外，NRG的成員魯裕敏、金在德、喜劇演員洪舒模，一共四位通過這次宣傳支援隊員的最終選拔。
There are 4 applicants who passed the selection. Other than Gong Yoo, the other 3 applicants are NRG member No Yoo Min, Kim Jae Deok, Comedian Hong Sun Mok.

於7月初進行的宣傳支援隊員，總共有58人提出申請，經過第一次甄選的書面審查，以及第二次甄選的術科演練和面試，等等競爭激烈又公正的選拔程序之後，最終決定錄取四人。
Out of 58 applicants, only 4 were selected after the very competitive and fair selection process held in July, which includes a theory exam, followed by interview and testing of applicants’ talents.

孔劉、魯裕敏、金在德、洪舒模，這些於本次新選拔出來的宣傳支援隊員，將於下月中依照國防勤務法規，變更所屬部隊為國防宣傳支援隊，和現正以藝能兵身分活動中的李鍵(本名：梁相模)、呂賢秀、徐載慶等人，共同透過國軍電視台以及國軍廣播電台等，進行各種宣傳活動。
Gong Yoo, No Yoo Min, Kim Jae Deok and Hong Sun Mok who are selected to be part of the Promoter Team will be officially appointed according to the National Defence Duties Law next month. target audience/viewers on the TV and radio programs are, of course the
comrades. The programs are also open to the civilians. The purpose is
to provide guidance on government order and to promote the image of the
National Army. Other than providing healthy entertainment during
leisure, it also improves the communication and understanding between
army and civilians.

國軍放送分為電視台和廣播電台兩大部分。除了外聘，軍中的藝能兵更是軍方在推行宣傳上的寶貴資產。是理所當然的廣播節目DJ，以及電視節目主持人
如果身在韓國，當然可以直接以收音機和電視機收聽／收看到國軍放送。
那麼，身在海外的我們有沒有機會收聽／收看到國軍放送呢？
答案是~~~~~~~ 當然行啦！！！

Channel and Radio Station are the two main divisions of KFN. Other than
hiring externally, the entertainment soldiers are the valuable assets
in the promotion campaign. They will normally be assigned to be the DJ
of the radio program or MC of the TV program.
If you are in Korea,
you will be able to listen/watch the programs directly from radio or
TV. How about people like us? Do we have a chance to listen/watch the
KFN programs from overseas?

We’ve noticed a lot of current stars heading off to fulfill their mandatory military duty, but how about the guys already there?
Gong Yoo (of Coffee Prince, not that you needed the reminder) enlisted back in January, and is taking a new role as a radio DJ for the Korean Forces Network (KFN) (aka the broadcast station run by the national army).
Starting on November 3, Gong Yoo will be broadcasting every day in the two-hour program “Gong Yoo’s Awaited 20:00” (the 20:00 referring, of course, to his airtime of 8 p.m.)
He said, “I’m really happy to be acting as radio DJ for the Korean
Forces Network, and I’m thrilled to be able to meet my fans through the
radio. I’ll treat this as a special duty I’ve been entrusted with, and
do my utmost to make my program the most fun, popular show.”
The program will mostly be talk radio format where current events
and other items of interest will be discussed. (There is a high
probability that the recent enlistee Sung Shi-kyung, who already has radio DJ experience in his real-life career, may also act as a DJ for KFN. Former participants include Yoon Kye-sang, who was enlisted from December 2004 through December 2006.)----------------------------------------------------ive heard GONG YOO last night!!.. it is a very lovely experience listening to gong yooat a online live streaming,, trying hard to understand what they say lol... and the songs even its korean i know them all!!.. the first on is nobody-WG, i( even sang to it).. next is saranghae- ft, YOON EUN HYE..... and take note!!!! GONG YOO is the DJ in the radion song and to think that YEH'S song was played at GONG YOO'S show,, woah!!1 kinikilig n nman ako!!!! hahaha......they are connected right?... or its just a coincidence??.. again??

On December 5, currently enlisted actor Gong Yoo (Coffee Prince) was at Dongdaemun’s Good Morning City outdoor stage to kick off the new military broadcast radio station.
Fans in attendance were excited to see the star after a year out of
the spotlight. Other celebrities present included enlisted NRG singer Noh Yoo-min, singer Hwang Bo, singer Psy, J-Walk duo Kim Jae-deok and Jang Su-won, and Misuda ex-panelist (and horrible singer) Jamilya (or Djamilya). Unfortunately, fans were disappointed when enlisted ballad singer Sung Shi-kyung did not make an appearance.

Gong arrived at the new FM station wearing the uniform bearing his real
name, Gong Ji-chul (”Gong Yoo” is his stage name, based on his parents’
surnames) and saluted his fans. He thanked his overseas fans, saying,
“It’s because of those fans that I’ve become an international star.” He
also explained his regard for all military personnel, such as those who
work in promotional departments within the military, because “even they
hold guns and work as hard to protect our country as the soldiers…
Please think of those servicemen as well.”
Gong Yoo had served in active duty through October, after which he
transferred his post to the PR department, where he conducts his radio show.
