When i
wanted to do a profile of Coffee Prince's
Choi Han Seong - actor Lee Seon Gyun, i couldn't find any information on him in
English! He isn't even on Wikipedia. Anyway, this is probably one of the few
profiles of him in English, thanks to K-popped!'s reader and
friend Joe
Gimm.

This low-keyed
actor has a rich deep voice that you would notice immediately. Lee Seon Gyun is currently in the drama My Sweet Seoul (달콤한 나의 도시). From an unknown he
shot to fame in his role in the 2007 MBC hit drama Coffee Prince in which he plays a patient and
sensitive music director.

year-old Lee Seon Gyun made his debut in 2001 via a musical 'Rocky Horror Picture Show'. He also started to
act minor roles in films from that year onwards. His most memorable TV
appearance was 'Loveholic:러브홀릭' in
2005.

It may be that producers
have taken note of that deep rich baritone of his and resulted in him singing
the title song of his current drama My Sweet
Seoul.

Lee Seon Gyun has
been seeing actress Jun Hye Jin for 5
years. Lee recently moved so people guessed they are about to marry soon but Lee
revealed that he's not thinking of it at the moment.

Triple-teaming the Triple team

(Yeah, the headline’s a bit of a stretch. But I couldn’t resist.)
Wha–? Lee Seon-kyun is going to be in MBC’s figure-skating trendy drama Triple?
I mean, I guess it kind of makes sense. He’d starred in director Lee Yoon-jung’s earlier series Taereung National Village (part of MBC’s Best Theater anthology). Following that, he’d agreed immediately to appear in Coffee Prince
when she was planning that series. Now that she’s planning her next
series, why not cast an actor with whom she’s had a good working
relationship? This’ll be Lee Yoon-jung’s third drama series, and the
third time she teams with Lee Seon-kyun.
Still, Triple seems like an odd choice, at least at first
glance. (He should be moving on and doing hard-boiled crime thrillers
and spare indie dramas with guys like Jang Dong-gun!) In this drama
series, he’s been cast in the role of an ad agency exec who’s described
as straightforward and honest with a sensitive side (so, like most of
his roles then). The drama stars rookie actress Min Hyo-rin as its young figure-skating lead, but Jung Il-woo has been removed from the casting list (he was to play a speed skater) following his jump to another MBC series, Iljimae.
I’ll probably be watching Triple when it airs in January, but I’m on the fence as to whether it’ll be candy-coated fun, or a train wreck in the making.

The cast of “Sa-kwa” does the press whirl

The 24th was press preview day for the cast of upcoming movie Sa-kwa
[사과, which could mean apple or apology], and while this doesn’t
necessarily look like my cup of tea, I do like the actors involved: Moon Sori (Legend), Lee Seon-kyun (White Tower), and Kim Tae-woo (Woman on the Beach).
The preview (below) also looks cute — in the film, directed by Kang Yi-kwan (A Smile),
Moon Sori’s character is dumped by Lee Seon-kyun after seven years. She
then marries Kim Tae-woo’s character, who’d long had feelings for her,
but is confronted with doubt and worry when her first love returns.

Although actor Lee Seon-kyun is often referred to
as The Voice (by us fans, I mean), I didn’t really expect to see him
take up singing — not in an official capacity, at least — but here he
is, lending his vocals to a track on Yoon Sang’s upcoming special album, “Songbook.”
Yes, Lee Seon-kyun has contributed his lovely baritone to songs on two of his previous dramas’ soundtracks: “Ocean Travel” [바다여행] from the Coffee Prince OST and “My Sweet City” [달콤한 나의 도시] from the drama My Sweet Seoul (listen below). But nice as his voice is, it’s not really much of a singing voice.
But I suppose that’s not the big draw. Veteran kpop musician Yoon
Sang’s special album will feature big-name stars, including the likes
of musician and songwriter Yoo Hee-yeol (aka Toy), vocal group Sweet Sorrow, rock band My Aunt Mary, rock-electronic artist W & Whale, girl group Girls Generation, and pop diva Uhm Jung-hwa. Lee Seon-kyun is the sole actor featured.
Lee is also appearing in the music video for the song he sings on the album, “Boy”
[소년], which had originally been released in 1993 on Yoon Sang’s second
album (listen below). The MV was recently filmed in Seoul and features
a “touching love story.” Lee explains that his decision to participate
on the album was because he had been a huge fan when “Boy” was first
released in 1993, and that recording a song that held good memories for
him was particularly meaningful.
“Songbook” goes on sale December 5.
